Laser Advertising and Graphics
Laser advertising for evening events: project logos and text onto buildings, walls and screens. Logo tips, picture size and how to plan it with LaserCube.
Laser advertising: logos and text on buildings
A laser advertising projector puts your logo, a message or a moving graphic onto a building, a wall or a screen in lines of laser light. It’s a way to stand out at an evening event, a product launch or a festival.
Design the laser graphics in the free LaserOS app: type text in any font, import your logo as an SVG file and make it draw itself with the Trace effect. For buildings, long distances and logos we recommend the LaserCube Ultra MK2.
Outdoor laser advertising works after dark: no LaserCube is suitable for projecting outdoors in daylight.
At a glance:
- Logos and text in any font from the free LaserOS app
- On the Pro and Ultra MK2, the picture is about 0.7 times as wide as the distance
- Battery-powered, so you can set up away from a power outlet
Make laser logos and text that read well
- Use a vector logo with pure outlines, not too detailed, saved as SVG or ILD. Our video shows how to turn a JPG into an SVG.
- A LaserCube draws up to about 600 to 650 points well. More detail flickers or looks deformed, so simplify the artwork or use more projectors.
- Projected text reads best at about 3 to 4 short words at a time. Use scrolling text for longer messages.
- Use at most about 80% of the scan area to spare the scanners, and place the cube further back for a bigger picture.
- A logo needs a solid surface: a LaserCube can’t show images or text in mid-air or on fog.
- Not sure how your logo will look? Email it as an SVG file to support@laseros.com, and our team can test it on a LaserCube.
Where to project laser advertising
- Project onto a building facade, a blank wall or a screen. Never onto windows: on bare glass the light goes through to the people inside.
- Keep every beam at least 3 m (10 ft) above the ground wherever people may be, and never aim toward people, aircraft, the sky or reflective surfaces, or toward roads, drivers or moving vehicles.
- Graphics get bigger and dimmer with distance. How far a projection works depends on the image, its colors, humidity or fog and the size of the surface; beyond about 400 m it’s of little use unless the surface is huge.
- A LaserCube can run a display with nobody watching, as long as you take responsibility for where the beams go and that nobody can get into them, with every beam at least 3 m (10 ft) above anywhere people can be. A permanent outdoor setup needs a climate-controlled enclosure.
- LaserCube is fully legal and certified worldwide. In the US, LaserCube is certified through X-Laser, and a LaserCube bought in the USA comes with the FDA variance (issued by X-Laser). For public shows, check your local rules too. Every US unit comes with an E-Stop, and its beam won’t turn on without it.
LaserCube is a professional show laser, not a toy: never aim it at people’s eyes, at audiences or at aircraft, and never at anything flammable. More in our safety tips.
Which LaserCube for laser advertising?
For buildings, long distances and logos we recommend the Ultra MK2, our most powerful model. The Pro 6W has the same laser output as the Ultra MK2 6W in a smaller, lighter body. The Pro isn’t sold in the USA yet.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q01What kind of laser projector is powerful enough for outdoor advertising on buildings?
For buildings and long distances we recommend the Ultra MK2, our most powerful model, in 6W or 10W. How far graphics on a building work depends on the image, its colors, humidity or fog and the size of the surface. Laser advertising only works after dark: no LaserCube is suitable for projecting outdoors in daylight.
Q02How do you create the content, like laser graphics, logos and text?
In the free LaserOS app on iOS, Android, Mac or Windows. Type text in any font, import your logo or artwork as SVG (best), PNG, JPG or BMP, or draw your own shapes in Draw. LaserOS draws them as outlines, and you can add Movement and Strobe to any of them. Trace works on SVG or ILD logos and on LaserOS’s own images and animations. Our video tutorials show each step.
Q03What kinds of surfaces can you project laser graphics onto?
Building facades, blank walls, interior walls and projection screens. Avoid reflective surfaces, and never use windows or glass as a target: on bare glass the beam goes through to the inside. A logo always needs a solid surface.
Q04How big will my logo be?
At full size, the Pro and Ultra MK2 draw a picture about 0.7 times as wide as the distance, about 1.4 m wide at 2 m and 14 m wide at 20 m. The WiFi models draw about half as wide as the distance. The farther away, the bigger and dimmer the picture.
Q05Can a laser advertisement run all night with nobody watching?
Yes, as long as you take responsibility for where the beams go and that nobody can get into them, with every beam at least 3 m (10 ft) above anywhere people can be. For a whole night, run it on its charger: the Pro and Ultra MK2 can run continuously. Each time the cube is switched on, it’s armed by hand: the safety key, and with an E-Stop connected its START button. After that it can run with nobody watching: on the Pro and Ultra MK2, Playlist mode with Power-On Play starts your playlist from the microSD card as soon as the cube is armed. Or use the Scheduler in desktop LaserOS (Windows and macOS): it turns the laser on and off at set times in LaserOS control mode, while LaserOS stays open and the computer stays on and awake. A LaserCube isn’t made to stay outdoors permanently: a permanent setup needs a climate-controlled enclosure.
